A set of long-held private interests was moved into the custody of a holding entity across a generational line, with continuity documented throughout.

01The mandate

Years of private ownership had been organised around the memory of the people who built it. The work was to transfer the interests into corporate custody — a structure that holds, records and administers ownership independently of any one person's recollection.

02The measures

• Capture the unwritten. The informal layer — understandings and intentions behind holdings — was written down and, where it constituted an arrangement, formalised.
• Reconcile every holding. Each interest was reconciled between register, records and reality before transfer.
• Transfer by design. Interests moved in a planned sequence with qualified advisers, each step executed and recorded the same day.
• Institutionalise the memory. The completed file was structured so the file — not the family — does the remembering.

03The outcome

The interests are now held in corporate custody on the standard annual cycle, with continuity documented from the first day of the transfer. The next generation will inherit a file that explains itself.
